Scotch Eggs

A classic British snack consisting of a hard-boiled egg wrapped in a layer of sausage meat, breaded and deep-fried. This recipe serves 4-6 people and is perfect for picnics, parties, or as a quick snack. The combination of the runny egg yolk and the savory sausage meat is a match made in heaven. To make it more interesting, you can add different seasonings to the sausage meat, such as smoked paprika or chili flakes, to give it an extra kick.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1
Hard-boil the eggs by placing them in a saucepan of cold water, covering the pan, and bringing to a boil. Remove from heat and let sit for 12-15 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water.
2
Once the eggs have cooled, peel them and set aside.
3
In a large bowl, combine the sausage meat, flour, egg, milk, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well with your hands or a wooden spoon until just combined.
4
Divide the sausage meat into 4-6 portions, depending on how large you want your Scotch eggs to be. Flatten each portion into a thin patty.
5
Wrap each egg in a sausage meat patty, making sure to seal the edges well. Dip each egg in the beaten egg and then roll in the breadcrumbs to coat.
6
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F. Fry the Scotch eggs for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
